Tried L'Opossum and honestly it’s one of the most unique dining spots I’ve been to in a while. The place has a bold, quirky atmosphere that somehow still feels cozy and inviting. Staff were knowledgeable, fun, and made the whole experience feel personal. The food was creative, beautifully plated, and full of flavor without being gimmicky. Every dish felt like real effort went into it. It’s not your average dinner spot, and that’s exactly why people love it. Definitely worth visiting if you want something memorable.

My wife and I had an amazing experience here, and they absolutely never miss. The food was outstanding, but the service is what truly sets this place apart. They were incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable with my wife’s celiac disease, which made the entire experience comfortable and stress free. Everyone was friendly, professional, and genuinely passionate about the experience they provide. Phenomenal service, great food, and consistently a great experience every time we visit. We will continue coming back as often as we can.

Absolutely terrific dinner — food was amazing, nuanced takes and flavors on lovable classics. The ambiance was so unique and glamorous with so much character… loved it so much! Our bartender Austin was fabulous and service all around was wonderful— great playlist as well. Also appreciated the thoughtful, old world wine selection by the glass which can be hard to find. Cannot wait to come back!

what a beautiful and well-curated experience! my partner works in fine dining though we often don’t get the chance to go out to eat due to conflicting work schedules, and we wanted to go somewhere extra special for our anniversary. we had been looking forward to this for months, and it blew away our expectations. the staff were very attentive but not overbearing, knowledgeable on the menu, and all congratulated us on our anniversary. you could tell every piece of food on the plate was placed with intention, you could see every ingredient when the dish was brought out, and the flavors all really shone through. I could go on and on about how lovely all the little details were, but you just need to experience it for yourself!! (pictured: tempura battered squash blossom stuffed with buttermilk ricotta, “swank bank” lobster mac & cheese, quail stuffed with pork cheek, jock snifter, & peach cobbler with buttermilk bourbon ice cream)

I mean, it's L'Opossum, yeah? Perfect on many levels. Tonight, the salad was especially on point. Sounds weird, but the combo of flavors was kinda electrifying. Tuna, pork croquettes, and the swellington rounded out a great experience. Thank you.

Celebrated anniversary here and can not say enough good things about it. We sat at the bar and it was perfect. Comfortable seats, wonderful attentive Austin(I think Austin was his name) spoiled us. We had a sparkling Rosé for a toast then an Australian cab for the meat eater partner. His filet was cooked to perfection. He said it was melt in his mouth and perfectly seasoned. I had soft shell crabs and mussels. The best soft shell crabs with a hint of heat. The bread was served warm with butter. We shared the chocolate dessert and it was so good I didn’t want to share more than a few bites with my partner. I let him eat most of the ice cream. Benefits of a long marriage. From the moment we walked in the door everyone was lovely. Magnificent start to our next year of marriage with a marvelous night out of exceptional food and music that was in the background and at the same time set the mood with the eclectic mix.

One cannot judge this book by its cover. The cover is an unassuming cubic grey and white building on the corner of China St and S Pine St in the Oregon Hill neighborhood of Richmond VA. Once you step inside, however. The atmosphere is a feast for the eyes. An eclectic collection of unique art work almost mesmerizes the observer. We had reservations that were made weeks in advance and were seated promptly by our welcoming hostess. Our server was warm and friendly and well versed in the menu items. She was attentive and yet not hovering. For starters my wife decided on the potato,- leek soup which she thoroughly enjoyed. I got a taste of the soup and marveled in the different flavors that came alive with just one spoonful. I opted out of appetizing to preserve my appetite for the filet mignon. This entree was perfectly cooked to my requested temperature (medium). It was incredibly tender and delicious rivaling a wagyu steak I experienced at Nobu in LA. My wife raved about her lobster and pasta dish. Both dishes were beautifully presented (see photos). What a great gastronomic experience. We will definitely be back!

Celebrated first anniversary with my bf here. Food was delicious. The chestnut soup was out of this world. The entrees were delicious, the coq au vin and the lamb belly were just so moist and fell apart so easily. The koign aman was the perfect desert to end the dinner.

We sat at the bar with server and bartender, Austin. He made our entire experience truly outstanding. Beautiful restaurant with beautiful people working there. Everyone was courteous, kind and friendly. The food was exceptional, especially the chestnut bisque, I would come in for by itself. I ordered the catch of the day, which came with mussels. After a past experience with having a bad mussel at another restaurant, I was both leery and reluctant to try them. The beautiful server with dark hair and glasses reassured me, they were fresh and I would not have any problems. She was correct, the dish with rockfish was outstanding. Now, back to Austin. He was such a great guy, funny, engaging, and absolutely everything. I highly recommend L’Opossum and make your reservation for the bar. You’ll have an opportunity to interact with the entire staff at some point. They all will take very good care of you. Bon Appetit!

I always have an excellent meal at L'Opossum. It's the closest thing RVA has to a European Michelin restaurant. Interior is quirky - sort of a gay Elvis vibe...but it works! Service is excellent - waitstaff is friendly, well informed, and works as a team. Food is always unique, and the menu changes up fairly often. Always love the creative names for the dishes! Proteins & preparation very much tilt French, albeit with a modern interpretation. I had escargot and rabbit last night, which were both divine. Have had stuffed quail, Coq au Vin and the Beef Swellington on prior visits, and have never been disappointed. Cocktails are always good, and I really enjoy their selection of wines by the glass. Prices are on the high side, but you're paying for the high quality ingredients and extensive prep that goes into each dish. A Richmond treasure. Highly recommended!
